What is dry needling?
Dry needling is a procedure used to treat pain and movement impairments. It is accomplished by inserting a "dry" needle (without medication) into areas of tissue, muscle, joints, tendons, and other bodily tissue to induce neuromusculoskeletal homeostasis, the key to health.

Does dry needling hurt?While not completely painless, dry needling produces very mild pain, similar to other therapies our team performs to release pulled muscle, once we have worked the area, you feel better. A counterintuitive aspect of dry needling is areas that painful areas with deep tissue massage are significantly more comfortable to have needled. And it a faster, more efficacious treatment than traditional manual therapy.
Other names used to describe dry needling include trigger point, electro- dry needling, Intramuscular stimulation (IMS), and intramuscular manual therapy. Dry needling is not acupuncture. Acupuncture is an Eastern medicine practice based on traditional Chinese medicine performed by acupuncturists using 300, or so, preset acupuncture points to balance 12 energy lines, or meridians, throughout our body. Neuromusculoskeletal anatomy knowledge is not typically utilized in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Dry needling is a modern Western medical approach supported by research known to improve or relieve the following conditions and injuries:
